Duck Lake is a large protected area teaming with wildlife. A serene area but also a major junction when accessing many other viewpoints and trail systems in the Powell River area. The region is ideal and appealing to the avid bird watcher, naturalist, hiker and photographer. The lake draws many people to the area with canoes and the gravel roads leading deep into the woods, while they attract the mountain bikers, 4X4 vehicles, ATVs and horseback riders. Duck Lake is home to many bird species native to British Columbia. The Duck Lake Protected Area covers just over 760 hectares, while the lake itself has a perimeter of approximately 4 km. If standing still and watching the local wildlife is not your thing then there are over 9 km of excellent hiking and mountain biking trails to keep the legs pumping, yet still, providing some scenic moments with the local wildlife. The trails are well marked with the trailheads located on Duck Lake Road. The area also provides a great environment for swimming and fishing. get a fishing liscense if fishing please. Along the Duck Lake gravel logging road are many trails and other adventures for both the hiker and mountain biker like the Blackwater Trail and Holly Branch Trail. All within a close driving distance. Look for big cement block monument trailhead markers. Access to Duck Lake Protected Area: located
near Powell River about 5 km east of the community, just south
of Haslam Lake. Follow Duck Lake Road and the
lake will appear. The Duck Lake Forest Service Road runs right
along the edge of the lake. Pick a trailhead and park along the
shoulder next to the lake. Start trekking. |
