| Mount Hallowell Trail
is a gem of a short hike that on a clear day, you can see forever
in many different directions. The mountain's peak opens up to
some fantastic views. In order to enjoy the scenery it involves
a short 2 km hike (0.8 mi) through forests, past ponds and up
some steep climbs. Depending on the fitness level it can take
up to 1-2.5 hours to complete. The highlights include the views
of course, but there is also the forests and an old water tower.
The Mount Hallowell Trail crawls through a forest
with two eco climate zones, enabling a larger variety of trees
to exist. Some areas, the mountain enjoys Douglas Fir and Red
Cedar. The peak, on the other hand is rocky and deals more with
the wind and rain so the hemlock and white pine trees are surviving,
although distorted in their survival.
Mount Hallowell Trail views are breath taking,
and on a clear day, completely captivating. Bring a set of binoculars,
a camera and a good picnic for this adventure. The peak can sure
entertain.
There are views of Pender
Harbour, Ruby
and Sakinaw Lakes. Adjust yourself and there are views of Vancouver
Island and Texada
Island. Take a walk and look out towards the northwest, there
is the Hardy Islands, Jervis Inlet and Hotham Sound. Keep looking
in all directions and more comes in view like Mt. Baker.
Once the peak is established there is another steep climb available.
It is a supply trail leading up to the Mt. Hallowell Fire
Watch Tower on the top of the northern peak of the Caren Range.
Local associations are rehabilitating the Forest Watchtower and
Supply Trail.
