Rieveley's Pond
Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada

( Return to N. Sunshine Coast, BC, Canada Parks & Trails )

Rieveley's Pond Hiking Trail, is part of the larger Appleton Trail System, both, located near Lund,BC on the upper potion of the Sunshine Coast. The trail system consists of three trails with three different hiking highlights. Some of the highlights include trekking amongst the giant old growth Douglas Fir trees, swimming at Rieveley's Pond or enjoying the gorgeous views off of the Marathon Trail.

The Rieveley's Pond Hiking Trail system is well marked and consists of three integrated trail routes. The best place to start hiking is from the Southview Road trailhead. One of the first must-see ocean views is from the offshoot trail named Gentle David. It is a loop trail offering up views of the Georgia Strait. A side diversion trail nearby continues to the Gibraltar Lookout for some more wide-out views. From there, retrace your steps back to the Marathon Trail and continue for another 1/2 hour until you reach Rieveley's Pond.

Rieveley's Pond is ideal for picnics, swimming and for bird watching. Pack up from there and trek for another hour to the Appleton Creek Recreation area. Another picnic area with tenting facilities. There is also a 2.2 km (1.3 mi.) trail at the Appleton site that follows along the creek. To enjoy the whole route it is wise to park a vehicle at each end as this is not a loop trail.

Access to Rieveley's Pond Hiking Trail: Drive along the Hwy 101 past the Sliammon Village to Southview Road. Follow the road for about 4 km (2.4 mi.) until you reach the trailhead markers.
