Knucklehead Mountain is a popular day hike through forests leading to great majestic views. The total hike peaks for hikers at 5500 ft. and is located near Lund, BC on the upper portion of the Sunshine Coast. The mostly uphill climb is home to wildlife such as deer, squirrels and, yes, bears. So be "Bear Aware".

During the summer seasons the trails are used by naturalists and backpackers primarily and when the winter arrives the trails transform into single track cross country ski and snowshoeing trails. The trail system usually follows the northern side of Knucklehead Mountain therefore not seeing allot of sunshine. Dress in layers, to be smart. The snow season on the mountain starts in November and snow is still evident in some cases all the way until late June.

Knucklehead Mountain has two warming huts in the region. The most popular warming hut can sleep up to 8 people. The hut has been through some renovations and upgrades. It is insulated from the chills of the mountain heated by a pellet stove. Often, there is a supply of wood pellets onsite. The warming hut is equipped with cooking conveniences like a propane stove and for lighting, there is a white gas lantern. A picnic table is found inside the huts for a card game and dining. The loft area of the warming huts are with mattresses making it somewhat cozy and personal. Just a few steps away in an outhouse. Make sure you bring sleeping bags, food and utensils. Always leave the hut as you found it.

The elevation of the cabin is over 3000 ft and can be accessed by a logging road, MacMillan Bloedel's "E" branch. A fit hiker will reach the warming huts in about an hour, most will reach it in an hour and half after some uphill hiking. For emergences there is a first aid kit in the warming huts and carry a cell phone if you have one for emergencies.

Access to Knucklehead Mountain: From Highway 101, make a turn onto Dixon Road and continue driving for 3 miles where you will make a turn at Lois Lake onto the MacMillan Bloedel Stillwater Mainline. Next, after about 7.5 miles of travel distance you want to keep an eye ou for the TinHat Junction - from there continuing past Horseshoe Creek, Freda Creek and at the 13 km mark turn left at the Third Lake Road Junction. On your right "A" branch will show up at about the 15 km mark. Continue your journey over a bridge for 1 km turning right onto "E" branch. Almost there, keep driving for 2 miles to the "E" branch and "E100" junction, stay right for 1 km to the gate. Park and go leaving no valuables in your vehicle.
